03 · Batch and expiry

Sell it or return it before it becomes a loss.

Milk, bread, curd, biscuits and masala packets all carry a date. Expiry Watch tracks every batch from the moment it is received and tells you, days in advance, what to mark down and what to send back to the supplier.

On this shelf

What you get.

Expiry by batch, not by guess

Each delivery is its own batch with its own date. The counter sells the oldest batch first.

Markdown suggestions

Suggests a discount based on days left, current stock and how fast the item usually sells.

Supplier returns

Flags batches that the supplier accepts back, and raises a return note before the return window closes.

Short-life categories

Dairy, bakery and chilled items get daily checks. Dry goods get weekly ones.

Morning expiry list

A short list on the owner's phone every morning: what expires this week and what to do about it.

Markdown labels

Print yellow markdown labels with the new price for the shelf, matched to the batch.

A suggestion you can read and agree with

Every suggestion says why: "18 packets expire in 2 days. Usual sale is 6 a day. Suggest 10% off to clear by Thursday." Staff approve, edit or skip it. Nothing is changed on the shelf or the bill without a person saying yes.

  • Reason shown with every suggestion
  • Edit the discount before approving
  • Approved markdowns apply only to that batch

See what expiry is really costing you

Every write-off, markdown and return is recorded. Store Reports shows the money lost to expiry each month by category and by supplier, so you know which orders are too large.

  • Write-off value per month
  • Recovered value through returns
  • Supplier-wise expiry losses

Help counter

Questions about Expiry Watch.

01Do I have to enter expiry dates for every item?

Only for items where it matters. Mark categories like dairy, bakery and packaged foods as expiry-tracked, and the goods receipt screen will ask for the date.

02Will the system change prices on its own?

No. Markdowns are suggestions. A staff member with permission must approve them before the counter price changes.

03Does the counter know which batch is being sold?

Yes. The counter sells the oldest batch first by default, and markdown prices apply only to the batch they were approved for.
